Re: Burke & Wills Project
Phetlern, Princess Diala and I had a day in the city yesterday and completed all the B&W virtuals and traditionals there.
6 of our 8 have now been found and the Central Victorian ones have all been hit a few times so it seems the series has generated quite a bit of interest. Apparently the 4x4 trip that is currently following the route had intended to place some caches along the way as well - fortunately they ran into a cache finder who informed them iof the series.
We have been approached to contribute to an article for the Bendigo magazine and I intend to focus on the B&W series (it might encourage the Bendigo trust to give us free trams for a Bendigo City Circle event)
Well done to all involved - the physical containers were a delight to find and congrats to C@W and the State Library for pulling it all together and giving us a chance to participate.

Re: Burke & Wills Project
Anyone who can get to Tassie should REALLY do the B&W cache here! SG-3's caches are always awesome, and this one was no exception. The only problem was that as it's a puzzle I can't post photos of the awesomest bits of it. Just take my word for it - it's well worth doing!

Re: Burke & Wills Project
I'm sad the real-time trackable cache didn't get legs.
Was a terrifically cool idea
Such is life.

Re: Burke & Wills Project
I am sure it will see the light of day, in another form, on a different occasion.
Now we have proved it works, will be easy to get out there. Perhaps an event where it will update every 10 mins, and call it a fox hunt across the city???
Any other ideas?
Cheers gordo

Ooooooh. I like that idea. Need to make sure people can get to the site via mobile etc, but this sounds intriguing.g_ordo wrote:I am sure it will see the light of day, in another form, on a different occasion.

Re: Burke & Wills Project
Quick note about the movable cache, which never managed to leave as expected
It is now out there, waiting to be found.

I understand some may perhaps see my conditions on moving it on a bit draconian, I havn't gone as far as getting any opinion as to whether this will fit in with peoples views on waht is "fair or acceptable" for conditions to "move" a cache. I am a fairly new cacher, havn't been to any events etc, or really met or spoken with others more experienced than me, so am still feeling my way. Am happy to take advice on this.
Please feel free to simply log it as a find if you dont agree with this, and leave it for the next person to decide if they want to stick with the conditions.
I hope you all will enjoy this cache, and for the first to find, sorry , nah not really, its a great hike .
Cheers Gordo

Re: Burke & Wills Project
That's a good concept g_ordo, and hopefully I can find it one day. It seems a lot of moveables end up in spots that actually deserve a real cache placed there.g_ordo wrote:Quick note about the movable cache, which never managed to leave as expected

Just one thing I would change in the description.
Change logging to listing as logging is what you do when you find one, and listing is what you do when you place it. Other than that, fantastic concept. When logging the new cache, give co-hiding recognition to the last person who hid the movable cache

Re: Burke & Wills Project
Really? That's kind of strange. Stupid question, are you logged in?
If you go to the cache page does it say at the top right (ish)

If the answer is yes, then over on the right hand side do you see a list starting with Actions?
It should be the first link under than called Log this cache
This is a direct link to the log page.
Does that work for you?

Re: Burke & Wills Project
From the morning of the 20-Aug-2010, that page was there and loaded with all the caches.
We worked extensively with the developers of the SLV site to provide them a real time feed of caches and logs.
