submitting international caches on GCA

Post by AmboGuy » 02 December 09 6:18 am

I tried to submit a cache I am placing in Canada, but the form won't recognise co-ords from the Northern Hemisphere, i.e.
N49°02.611' W122°18.501' (the actual location, Mill lake, Abbotsford BC), also you can enter the US States, but no Canadian Provinces. It will be great to have Us Aussies living here, list our caches so Aussies visiting Canada can seek them out, giving a true international feel to GCA, not to mention my idea of Aust/Canada exchange caches!!
to make this truly international, "State" should be changed to "State/Province" and when you click on Canada, as I did, you should see the Provinces.
Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, plus the territories, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon. (saves someone looking them up)

Is this an easy fix?

There is no 'easy' fix, but yes, we can add the Canadian Provinces.
I'll do that sometime this week. If you want to list your cache without the province, do it and I'll back fill it when I get the provinces done.

As far as your co-ords go, you need a few spaces.
N49°02.611' W122°18.501' should be
N49° 02.611' W122° 18.501'

That works. It places a cache on the edge of Mill Lake in Centennial Park.

Welcome to GCA.

I believe I've got the provinces in to the database and the geographical centres into the Google Maps.

We started out at Australian based so we never really considered other regions having the same initials. e.g. NT = Northern Territory and NT = Northwest Territories. I've fixed what I can find, but if you do see something come up as Northern Territory, let me know.

At the moment, the text will still refer to "state" rather than "state / province". I don't like the slash name as there will be other countries that use neither and I'm loathe to keep adding slashes.

I'll confer with my developer network and see if we can come up with a name. Region seems to cover the variations, but we'll see.

Thanks for being supportive of the GCA site. Even if you don't get many (any?) finders of any GCA caches you list, we're very appreciative of your attempts.

Thanks mate,
I tried to check to make sure you got them right, when I go into GCA main, I get a ghostly overlay, like two p one over the other, this started yesterday, and after 2 reboots it stays the same, for example at the moment, I have the quick jump page and my account page running together, and can hardly read either of them????, any guesses.

The main thing I wanted to check was that you have "newfoundland and Labrador`as one province, as in trinidad and Tabago is one country,

North West Territory can and is accepted to be abbreviated as NWT, Alberta ALB (because of Alabama), Sask., Man, N.B., NFLD. and Lab, N.S, Ont., P.E.I, Qc or Qbc, Sask., Nvt. Yuk

These are the approved and or common used abbreviations.

As said previous, I can't check, due to my overlay issues.

What browser and version are you using?
Can you post a screenshot?
I've never heard of this before and I need to visualise what is happening.
