Problem with GCA site archiving newer GC caches??

Post by Tealby » 21 October 06 1:56 pm

Something weird is happening on the GCA site. Two days ago I logged on & found that one of my caches was listed as archived, even though it has never been disabled on gc.com. I edited the cache properties on GCA to show that it was available & thought that had fixed the problem. Then yesterday I found that 2 caches were archived, and again today three of my caches were showing as archived! The caches (so far) are: Wombat Stew, Kinder Kapers & Bzzz... - I have made them available again, but suspect that the problem will keep recurring unless there is some other form of intervention. I have also noticed similar problems with the newer cache listings for Eynowd, BigON & Fore!, Tankengine, mtbikeroz etc.

Does anyone know what is happening? It seems that the logs/stats are not updating for these caches either so perhaps that is the problem. I am unable to import logs from the gc.com site because I am not yet a premium member, so I am unable to do this to check if this will resolve the problem.

Another oddity is that some FTF logs don't seem to be recording - this has happened with Tankengine's find of my The Thin Blue Line cache, and my find of Upper Urambi. Both of these were a week or more ago, so I don't think it is just a system delay. Other finds on the same day came across without any problems.

Any ideas? I couldn't find anything about this on the forum site, but please excuse me if this question has already been asked.

The FAQ in the wiki answers a lot of this.

The missing FTFs are probably due to >5 logs on the same day.
The archives will probably come good of their own accord.

Thanks - the FAQs answered the question as to why some logs are missed when more than 5 posts are made on a day, but it doesn't explain the mystery of the GCA site randomly archiving live GC caches. Very odd?????

that sorts itself out pretty quickly usually.

My non-coder understanding is that this site knows they are archived on the other site by them not turning up in the feed they were expected in.

Sometimes they don't come in for a few days for other reasons. This site marks them as archived (its the only way it can guess) and if/when it turns up again in the feed it goes active again.

Just one of those things...

The Faeries might be of assistance, regrettably GC is playing up tonight.
Bump this tomorrow and the Faeries should be back in to help.

The advice from riblit is that the archiving issue will be dealt with.

In the meantime the Faeries have loaded up 19 missing logs from your caches, so hope that helps a little.

I was having another look at the site & see that all the GC cache listings that were created between 18 Aug - 11 Oct (at this stage) in the ACT have been archived on GCA (13 in total, including my 4). This only seems to be a problem in the ACT - I had a look at the listings for all of the other states & they have live listings between those dates. Very strange...

Yes this happened to my cache Hunter Heartland Travel Bug Motel, I only noticed it due to new icons on the GCA Google Earth Layer. It hasn't had it's most recent logs com across from GC either, I have re-enabled it on GCA, any progress on the problem here?

Can mine be manually fixed, it has been re-archived on the site and the logs still haven't come across for weeks?

I had exactly the same recurring problem. With many thanks to the faeries it is now totally fixed :D - I have no idea what caused it to happen, but hopefully they can weave their magic for you too.
