new: google earth cacher feed

Post by ideology » 02 July 06 1:41 pm

we've developed a google earth cacher feed which allows you to cruise around the world and see where everyone is from

- the location of the bar is roughly their home coords
- the height is the number of gca finds they have

Image

the link is at: http://geocaching.com.au/cachers/cachers.kml

privacy considerations:
we've said on the forum profile for ages: This is used to calculate distances from your caching headquarters and also plotted on maps which are available to the public. ... If you are are worried about geo-stalkers, put in the coordinates for your local pub or just make the last few digits zeroes to round it off"
nevertheless, lots of people have put in really accurate coords. someone mentioned to us that there's a risk that someone could see you were attending an event cache then go and rob your place. we've therefore rounded the coords to two decimal places, so the robbers will be robbing your unfortunate neighbours who live on mini-confluence points.

we hope you enjoy it
please let us know how it goes!

Yep - I was the someone.

I'll change mine to the bastards who keep doing burnouts at 3am from there place to mine and up around the corner.

Lets hope the robbers are busy when I'm at my next event cache in the Blue Mountians.

The Bronze.

Excellent!! :D

And now we know for sure that we are the southern-most cachers in Australia!! Woohoo for us!

Although we do appear to be living 100 metres out to sea from Kingston Beach :P I wonder what kind of house prices we could get with "absolute ocean frontage"

Very interesting application :D . I have my doubts about some cachers home co-ords being anywhere near there homes though, There are two off the West coast of Eyre Peninsula who according to their profiles are in Adelaide and one near Steaky Bay who apparantley lives in Bunbury WA.
