Re: How many people still visit the forums
I look in every couple of weeks or so, sometimes less. Facebook works as a social connector, and as such it works well and probably takes a lot of otherwise drivel from Forums like this. This is still the best place to come for REAL information exchange though, which is why obviously a reasonable nu...

Re: New Program - GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife)
I use a macro called "FilterAvailableAndSolved" that does pretty much the same thing except first I have a filter set for the general area that I load each week. So, what I do is choose my area filter, run my macro and then load my GPSr. I only throw it out there as it sounds as if it would save yo...

Re: Creating a plaque, with cache inside for GC3E
TO find the oldest cache in each state -
Simply do a search in GC.com by Country and then State, and then go to the first cache.
WA's is indeed Albany Quarantine.

Re: Garmin Oregon 650
I have only just upgraded to 3.5 and haven't used it in the field yet, but I found that - - The screen saving setting, which was Off before, is still Off. - The Track Manager - I have no idea what it was before but it is now on Track and Trip (since changed to Prompted.) - When I do connect to the P...

Re: Garmin Oregon 650
Thanks again Geoff. I have deleted just the POI folder and it seems to have done the trick. However I must say that this should not need to be done - the programming simply is not right. I am regularly disappointed at how, after computing has now been mainstream for ? 20 ? years, some programming ju...

Re: Garmin Oregon 650
When I did a test on looking for Child Waypoints, it came up with three lots of Parking Areas, and two of a Stages of a Multicache. All three of the Parking ones, and both of the Stages, were identical, and when I entered All Databases, it either comes up with only three waypoints (there are lots mo...

Re: Garmin Oregon 650
Many Thanks Geoff, I had not managed to find where the Child Waypoints went to, but also had not really looked. Overall I think that the new Oregon series is great. One thing that I do find frustrating about the Oregons as a whole though is that to navigate to a waypoint, Child or otherwise, you hav...

Re: Garmin Oregon 650
Another thing which I don't think Garmin have done well is that there does not seem to be a quick easy way to find additional waypoints for a cache. You can do it but you have to know the lengthy procedure. This is one that I find a bit odd indeed, and yes, poor design. Geoff, just how do you find ...

Re: The fires
It is the wind that really causes the problems. Let us all hope that everyone stays safe. Houses can be rebuilt, as bad as loosing one is, even with prized possessions gone too. And for what it is worth, the caches will probably be inaccessible for weeks, as all the access roads need to be checked a...

Re: Need new GPS
In the end most new GPSrs work OK, just get one that has the features you like. Good luck. I have to totally agree with this. Somethings to consider are - - Screen size - overall size - type of screen - colour screen or not - maps - ability to download from a computer (although I think they all hav...

Re: Alice Springs Milestone - Plan YOUR trip next year
I think that is terrific on both counts! I have had the pleasure of caching at Alice on at least two occasions when doing the Larapinta and would definitely plan to attend an event there next year if one was held. I am sure that a few others from around the country would too given enough notice. Acc...

Re: programming a garmin gps
You either put them in manually (very slow and prone to errors) or you use an interface, commonly called a computer, to download lots and lots at the same time.
Having done both, I know which I would rather do.

At only about $3 to $5 why not try one of the normal ones? They are all pretty good.

Re: New Garmin Monterra android gps
The ability to download caches while in the field via your phone does have its attractions, as does having your Geocaching device separate from your PAF'ing device.
