Re: Newbie thread: Which Magellan handheld GPS to buy?
So what do people think of the Tritons, does anyone actually use one? I bought one. There was no documentation as to how many caches could be loaded onto it, so I tried 100 - ok. Tried 500 - ok. Tried NSW. That irrevocably locked up the device with absolutely no way of rectifying it, so off it went...

Re: Loading a GCA GPX to an Oregon 300
When do you run this? After the GPX file has been imported? Why don't you have this problem CR? Yes, the import to GSAK populates GKAK variable $d_CacheID with 999999998 if there is no "groundspeak:cache id" in the GPX. A subsequent GPX export from GSAK exports every GCA cache with the "groundspeak...

Re: Loading a GCA GPX to an Oregon 300
This problem annoyed me enough on my Oregon that I had to find out what was causing it. After some investigation I found that GCA caches have no "groundspeak:cache id" tag. This tag is what the Oregon uses to check for uniqueness of caches. A simple GASK macro is all that was requires to change this...

Re: New New Zealand record for most caches in a day*
I can't seen to manage more than about 45. I did break the NZ record once a few years ago, but never held it. I knew I'd broken it and was very pleased with myself, but the same day somebody else broke it with one more than me! Congratulations.

Re: 160 metre rule
The 160 circle is courtesy of GCA, not GC. You need to look up a nearby cache on GCA, click the Google maps link on the right and that is the map with the proximity feature.

Re: CHRISTMAS CACHING TRIP TO TASMANIA
Looks like there'll be lots of us down there. God willing I should get there on the 30th as I've agreed to leave Sydney on the 26th for the 4th time (will I never learn) and have a little sail to Hobart.

I guess the question of whether it was an inappropriate placement comes down to whether it was near any sort of potential terrorist target. My office from last year was about 150m away and overlooked the cache site in question. The cache was about 40m from anything at the edge of a carpark. The clo...
