What a great legacy: helping new voices communicate science with some of the flair and passion that Darren brought to it.

Re: GC Numbering
Who will be the lucky hider of GA10000 ??? It'll probably be some loser who'll enter scores or hundreds of listings to get it. When one of the other "significant" numbers came up, the loser swore black and blue that his looong sequence of unused cache submissions were part of a series and nothing t...

Re: What to use for a logbook for a waterbottle cache container?
First thought: use them as water bottles and buy some open-mouthed thermos containers instead. I know, you want to use what you already have, but not every item makes a good cache container... Pity that the neck is just a few mm too small for a 35mm film canister to fit. Second thought: waterproof m...

Re: How many metres is a mintute and second in Log and Lat
Your GPS almost certainly has a waypoint feature, where you enter the coords of the point you want to get to, then get a screen with the direction and distance to get there. (The "magic arrow" that has almost religious significance to geocachers! :) ) Wandering around trying to get the lat/long numb...

Re: Nothing to do with geocaching.
Couldn't you just bring along a recording of some previous race? I mean, they're all just cars going round and round in circles and they all look the same, right?

Re: multi-cache event / multi-cache for a day
This is Liberty Hall, you can spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard. And listing an event which has extra elements is not a problem. The other option is to simply list it the way you want, but give attendees the choice of logging the event by simply turning up. Smileys are free, give 'em away t...

What is the GCA piggy bank looking like, anyway? I recall we had some left over from the last server fundraiser, but I don't have a feel for just how many parcels C@W's sent out since then!

Re: Maleny Animal Trail how to present track and caches for each
There's a few factors that need to be considered: How easy is it to hide caches at each of these sites? It sounds like they're mostly in obvious public places, which would make hiding containers nearby difficult. So, a few multicaches would probably be better. Mix up the ideas to avoid staleness, us...

Re: Creating a plaque, with cache inside for GC3E
Makes you wonder what is the ACTUAL oldest cache in Australia - i.e. the original container in the original spot. My dough's on this one: Frying Pan Would be a no-no these days as it's 'buried' in the style of early caches. 49 finds in 13 years though! Isn't this one still the original cache, and a...

Re: Creating a plaque, with cache inside for GC3E
It's a bit like my Dad's favourite axe. He'd had it since he was a young man and, although it had had five new heads and twenty new handles, it was still his favourite. The cache is long, long gone. Allowing it to remain as a virtual was a sop to nostalgia, but trying to claim that a completely new ...
