Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

Most of Adelaide has now been restored with the exception of street names. Some of it needs a bit of a cleanup but it's generally good. Country SA still has a long way to go, but the major routes are mostly complete. I'm surprised it only took a couple of months; might actually be able to generate a...

Re: Australian Power Trails

I am one of the minority out there who isn't a big fan of power trails. But a few nights ago, I broke my oath, teamed up with a friend and did an 11km run for 50+ caches in a Canberra nature reserve. But it isn't a power trail, because: - We weren't driving, we were running. - Power trail caches hav...

Re: OpenStreetMaps now useless in a lot of areas.

For SA users of OSM: We seem to be the hardest-hit out of the states - I estimate probably 60% of Adelaide is still there, much lower for some rural areas. The Yorke is looking pretty good (although it's always been rough due to lack of imagery). I've spent the last couple of months redrawing or cle...

Some where along the Great Ocean Road. I know Eumerella Scout Camp is quite large, but can't remember there being any deer.

Re: Shenanigans...

Ahhhh...I just cleared my cache and now the image doesn't appear. They've also hotlinked a low-resolution image from a different page for one of their listings. I didn't realise there was a term for it - I've always just thought of it as plagiarism. That explains Dvixen's sudden interest in the thre...

Re: Shenanigans...

Um...this is odd, but I can still see the images on all the listings. Funny thing is, the graphic is being called from:

Dvixen, care to explain? I'm confused.

Re: Archived because of danger (or not)

If caches are going to be archived or not published in the first place because of possible dangers, then you need to get rid of anything not on flat ground, anything next to a road and anything that involves walking over bumps or through long grass. I'm in full agreement with Zytheran here; if the o...

Re: 70 +caches in a day... How do you do it ?

Depending on the area, it's not real hard at all. We did 102 on the Yorke in one day, and friends of ours did 137. And we signed every single one of them, with pre-printed and dated stickers. But then, that's the Yorke. The "should I be signing the logbook" thread ran its course recently. One of the...

Re: Do I Log A Find?

If you found an old lunchbox with someone's name on it, that had been dumped and was obviously serving no purpose other than being litter, would you make an attempt to give it back to the owner, or do the world a favour and just put it in the bin? The remains of this cache are no different. When own...

Re: Controversy - Who's responsible?

That's funny - I usually end up unnecessarily bush-bashing towards the cache, then finding the "correct" way out! Usually takes about half the time to get back  Our two cents' worth: we found a number of nano caches in the bush recently, and none of them were (in our opinion) in environmentall...

Re: Bogus Logs

They also logged finds on a couple of our earthcaches in Vic, which were deleted not only because there was no email from them with answers, but also because there was another one from acts2youthgroup advising us of this little scam (if that's what you'd call it). The burning question is, why the he...

When your occupation involves spending 16hrs a week at TAFE and there still isn't enough time for anything else.

When you have to pull the Mrs back into bed in the middle of the night because she reckons she is going to find a cache.

All these are valid points - maybe 'unethical' is the wrong term to use in a lot of cases. Jardry, you're right about a lot of cemetery hides; I think they're interesting as they're one of the better ways to give finders a history lesson. We've found heaps, and there are only a couple that stand out...

Unethical hiding places

Recently, I've witnessed a lot of furore about what people construe as an 'unethical' hide on an Adelaide cache. The hide in question is underneath a utility plug, I think it's a gas mains inspection point (one of hundreds around the city), in a suburban area. The cache owner's been copping a lot of...
